That’s How It Is

by alexrambler

In this world no one can really be free
There’s gonna be a change you see
Someday we the people shall tell
Our mighty kings to go to hell
But when your brought down hard
By the shackles of oppression scarred
You’re stuck inside a planetary prison cell
Where no visionaries receive a place to dwell
What is there left here now to live for
When everyone keeps showing you the door

Just keep your head up
If you don’t wanna’ get snubbed
‘Cause they’ll never understand
Unless you’re a white man
Then come join the feast
Of bankrupting those with the least
That’s how it goes after centuries
Of keeping the bankers’ interests
Some folks turn to the bottle
Some take their lives at full throttle

And that’s how it is
It’s always been this way
That’s how it is
The wealthy never pay
And they surely don’t share
Or worry about their secret affairs
But we’re stuck in confinement
Can’t do nothing ’bout this
That’s how it is

Here come the good ol’ police
Searching for the junkies and druggies
Throw them straight into a cell
That’s how you make them get well
And don’t forget those beggars there
Wipe the streets so we won’t see the despair
Everybody’s going crazy right here
Acting like bourgeois musketeers
Grabbing swords and grabbing shields
To keep their dirty secrets concealed

But keep your head up
For what will now develop
Look out for the fear mongers
Shouting from your TV-monitors
Telling you the distorted facts
That they’ve pulled out of a wizards hat
Trust none of what you can see dear
Trust even less of what you hear
The truth can be twisted and forged
Even the robber barons never get charged

And that’s how it is
It’s always been this way
That’s how it is
The wealthy never pay
And they surely don’t share
Or worry about their secret affairs
But we’re stuck in confinement
Can’t do nothing ’bout this
That’s how it is

A long time ago I heard a guitar strum
Someone said to me a change is gonna come
But the times never really change
We need some time to rearrange
And get rid of the tyrants that sell out
Our common land without a doubt
These noblemen only want more sweet candy
And everyone just think things are going dandy

The men are holding on to the power
Money is their tool but never the answer
They hang on to their birthrights
Don’t care none ’bout women rights
Or those slaving away in the factories
The poor who gets beaten down by authority
Maybe someday we’ll learn how to love each other
Despite ethnicity, sex or class the earth is everyone’s mother

And that’s how it is
It’s always been this way
That’s how it is
The wealthy never pay
And they surely don’t share
Or worry about their secret affairs
But we’re stuck in confinement
Climbing from the abyss
That’s how it is
